Brazil boss Tite has called Bayer Leverkusen left-back Wendell and Atlético Mineiro midfielder Rafael Carioca into his squad for October qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia, after Marcelo and Casemiro withdrew with injuries.
Casemiro broke a bone in his leg playing for Real Madrid, while his clubmate Marcelo pulled a thigh muscle. As such, Galo midfielder Rafael Carioca has been drafted, he was called into the squad for the first time for September matches against Ecuador and Colombia, but did not feature.
Wendell is called to the senior squad for the first time after some eye catching performances for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. Wendell was called into the U-23 squad for some pre Olympic friendlies, but again did not feature.
Brazil play Bolivia in Natal on October 6th, before facing Venezuela in Mérida on 10th October. Rafael Carioca and Wendell will be expected to report to Brazil’s training base on Sunday, 2nd October. Rafael will miss Galo’s crucial clash against Corinthians as a result.
