Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva was called up to the Brazilian national team by new coach Tite for the World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela.
Thiago Silva, who returns to the national squad after a long break, said in an interview with Esporte Espetacular that it was difficult to explain his absence from Dunga"s lists since his mistake in the match against Paraguay in the quarterfinals of the Copa América 2015. Avoiding direct criticism of the former Brazil coach, the PSG man explained that it was even difficult to face his children. Still, despite hearing suggestions to retire from international football, Thiago Silva did not give up on his hopes of being called up again, which has now happened.
He said: “People would ask why you"re in the XI of FIFA, is the best [defender] in the world for three years in a row, but is not in the national team? Honestly, it was hard to explain. It was hard to tell my children why their father was not in the national team. Whenever they saw a game of Brazil, they would ask, ‘Dad, why you"re not there?" and I cannot answer."
Thiago Silva said that, with Dunga, he no longer had hopes of returning to the Seleção. The player is unaware of the reasons that led him to be forgotten, but does not believe that it was his mistake against Paraguay, where he handled the ball inside the box.
