Real Madrid defensive midfielder Casemiro and left-back Marcelo have been removed from Brazi"s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers; coach Tite will reveal his two substitutes on Monday.
After losing Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa, who suffered a muscle injury in his right thigh, Brazil coach Tite has confirmed that two more players will be removed due to injury. In an interview with Esporte Espetacular on Sunday, the coach, among various issues, said that Casemiro and Marcelo has been cut from the squad, but refused to answer when asked if the replacements would be from the Brazilian Championship.
Tite said: “I have [the names of substitutes], but I cannot say it now [laughs]. They"re already set, but we will make it public tomorrow [Monday]."
Atlético Mineiro midfielder Rafael Carioca, who was called up for the games with Ecuador and Colombia, may return to the squad following the injury to Casemiro. Douglas Santos of Hamburg and Santos left-back Zeca are some of the options to replace Marcelo. Casemiro has suffered a crack in his fibula, and is expected to return in three weeks. The left-back has a grade two muscle calf injury and should be sidelined for two weeks.
The national team will start preparing for the games against Bolivia and Venezuela on October 2nd. Brazil will face Bolivia on October 6 at the Arena das Dunas in Natal, and then takes on Venezuela on 11th, away from home. Brazil currently sits second in the World Cup qualifiers table with 15 points, one less than leader Uruguay.
