Modesto Roma Júnior, president of Santos, and Wagner Ribeiro, representative of Lucas Lima, should meet next week to discuss the contract renewal of the playmaker.
According to the information from UOL Esporte, to close the agreement, the agent requested an exit clause of €15 million in the new contract. This means that, if a club pays that amount for the share of Santos, then the club’s board is required to release the player. In the case of striker Gabigol, who was sold to Inter Milan, the exit clause was €18 million. Santos heard the proposal but the amount was deemed low. A new figure will be discussed at the next meeting. In the assessment of the player’s entourage, Modesto should accept a figure between €20 million and €25 million as exit clause, an amount considered high by Lucas Lima’s representative. The two sides believe that an agreement would be reached, and the new commitment is expected to be valid until the end of August 2019.
The new distribution of economic rights of Lucas is not set. Currently, Doyen Sports has 80%, Santos has 10% and the remaining 10% is with Édson Khodor, who still has a contract as the player’s agent, even though it’s Wagner Ribeiro who currently manages the negotiations. For Santos, more important than the division of rights and the new release clause is the value of the exit clause. It should be Santos who will end up defining how much the club receives from a possible sale. Lucas Lima’s entourage believes that the playmaker can be sold in the transfer window to Europe in the middle of next year.
