Legendary São Paulo goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni has hailed young striker Gabriel Jesús and midfielder Fernandinho, during a recent visit to the Manchester City training ground to help him while he studies for his coaching badges.

Ceni, who played for São Paulo for over 20 years and was famous for scoring free-kicks and penalties, told the City website, “Gabriel Jesús is a boy with everything to succeed in the Premier League, not only due to what he has done with the Brazilian national team, but also because all the quality he has shown playing for Palmeiras.

“He is fast, skillful and a prolific finisher as well. I agree with Guardiola when he said that City bought goals when they signed Gabriel. He will have Guardiola as a great teacher and the help of Fernandinho and Fernando will be vital for his adaptation over here.”

While Fernandinho also drew praise from the recently retired Brazilian ‘keeper, “He is a very good player, he has technique and can play in many positions. He is not only excellent in the build-up, but can also go up to the front to score goals.

“Undoubtedly a modern player, that’s why he is one of the best players of the team and has kept his place with Guardiola. With the way he is playing and also the natural team improvement throughout the season, he has everything to be called back to the Brazilian national team.”

Fernandinho was duly recalled to the Seleção squad for October qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela, with Paulinho suspended.
