Barcelona legend Michael Laudrup was critical of the conduct of Neymar Junior during Barca’s 5-1 win away at Leganes. In the final minutes, with Barca well in the lead, Neymar began to showboat with the ball, with Leganes defender Oscar Ramos in particular taking exception, swiping the Brazilian and earning himself a yellow card.

Neymar has endured criticism in similar circumstances before; he earned the consternation of Athletic Bilbao players during the closing stages of the 2014 Copa del Rey final as he produced tricks and flicks with Barca in the ascendancy.

Working as a pundit for BeIn Sports, Laudrup, who played for Barcelona between 1989-1994, was critical of Neymar in the incident, “By stepping on the ball like that? It provokes. Pass the ball and go elsewhere! With the score at 4-0 you cannot be stepping on the ball and inciting your rival.”

Leganes coach Asier Garitano was more philosophical however, insisting, “I saw him do it with the result in his favour and against him. For me, players who have this talent are welcome, it’s beautiful. When you’re on the other side, you do not like it, but it’s part of football. It is beautiful to see.”
