20-year-old Brazilian striker Gabigol, who has arrived in Italy to start his European adventure, will earn a salary of €385,000 per month at Inter Milan.
At Santos, Gabigol pocketed around €42,000 monthly. Excluding discounts, the amount was reduced to approximately €33,000. At Inter Milan, the salary Gabigol will earn in a month is almost equal to the total wages he earned a year at Santos. The Italian side spent €29.5 million to buy the player, who received €11.5 million because he himself owned 40% of the economic rights. Santos were contractually obliged to release Gabigol in the event of an offer that met his €18 million exit-clause. Investment group Doyen, who owned 20% of rights, would fight in court to receive their share from Santos.
Gabigol’s agent Wagner Ribeiro said: “We had several proposals for Gabigol. Inter Milan, Juventus, Atlético Madrid and Leicester City. So we managed to negotiate the salary well. Gabigol comes to Europe with a top player salary. He will be one of the highest paid players in Inter’s squad. And we’re talking about tax-free salary. The monthly cost to Inter Milan will exceed €460,000.”
