São Paulo director Marco Aurélio Cunha admitted that midfielder Michel Bastos could leave the club this week.
Before the match against Figueirense last weekend, Cunha has said that he will talk to the player, and then solve the situation. Last week, Michel Bastos asked São Paulo to leave with two justifications; the aggression of organized fans in the training centre in Barra Funda ten days ago, and a French proposal rejected by the club. Michel Bastos was one of the three players attacked during the invasion of fans in the training centre of São Paulo. Carlinhos and Wesley also received slaps on the head. After the incident, Michel Bastos consulted a lawyer to inquire about the possibility of cancellation of the contract due to the lack of safety in the workplace. In addition to this, Michel Bastos was also frustrated with Gustavo Vieira de Oliveira, former executive director of football, who turned down an offer fron France, despite the insistence of the player to be negotiated.
According to the information from Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Rodrigo Caio and Lucão are the other players who were angered by Gustavo because they were not released. Rodrigo had a proposal from Sevilla, while Lucão’s move to Dinamo Zagreb didn’t go through just because of a delay from the director to respond to the Croatian side. The problem for Michel Bastos is that the transfer window in the major leagues of world football has been closed. In Brazil, he’s not eligible to defend another club in the top-division, because he’s already played over six matches in the league.
