40-year-old striker Magno Alves was Fluminense"s hero in the 3-2 victory over Figueirense on Saturday.
The veteran striker is now the third leading scorer among active footballers in the world with 437 goals, only behind superstars Cristiano Ronaldo [31 years old and 538 goals] and Lionel Messi [29 years and 506 goals]. Magno Alves is eighth in the list of players with most goals scored for Fluminense. In good shape despite his age, the attacker considers himself a “rare" player. Throughout his career, Magno Alves has played for 12 clubs, namely, Fluminense, Ceará, Atlético Mineiro, Sport, Independente de Limeira, Araçatuba, Criciúma, Jeonbuk Motors, Oita Trinta, Gamba Osaka, Al Ittihad and Umm Salal. Magno Alves said: “Glad to be among the top ten scorers of the club. When you need me, I"ll be there [laughs]. There are those rare players like Zé Roberto and Ricardo Oliveira. Glad we are reminded and I thank God to be playing."
Fluminense enters the field on Wednesday for the derby against Botafogo in the Arena da Ilha do Governador, in Rio.
