Botafogo have contacted the father of Brazilian full-back Maicon, and the player was excited to hear what the club has to offer.
Right-back Luis Ricardo was ruled out for the remainder of the season, and Botafogo are working to sign a replacement for the rest of the Brazilian Championship. Hours after being informed about Luis Ricardo"s fracture, Botafogo began to analyse names, and then started contacts on Monday, of which one was with Maicon. The club asked information about the former player of the national team, but the negotiations are still in an early stage. Maicon is currently without a club since the end of his spell with AS Roma in June. On Monday, Botafogo director Antônio Lopes contacted Sisenando Manoel, father of Maicon to see if the player would be interested in playing in Rio de Janeiro. Manoel talked to Maicon, who"s in Belo Horizonte, and was interested in hearing what the Carioca club has to offer. The financial issue has not been addressed, but the salary can be an issue in the negotiations, according to reports in Brazil. Maicon has been in Europe for the past 12 years, where he played for Monaco, Inter Milan, Manchester City and Roma. With Inter, he went through the best moments of his career when he won five Italian championships, plus the Champions League in 2010 under José Mourinho. Maicon played in the last two World Cups [2010 and 2014] for Brazil. The deadline for registration of players in the Brazilian Championship ends on 16 September. In turn, the club has less than two weeks to sign and register a player for the position. Without Luis Ricardo, Botafogo will have Diego in the game against Fluminense. The full-back, 20, was a starter at the beginning of the season, but lost ground early in the Campeonato Carioca.
