São Paulo’s Rodrigo Caio, who formed an excellent partnership with Marquinhos in the Olympic Games, has been linked to several teams in Europe.
However, a transfer needs to happen before Wednesday’s deadline. According to the information from UOL Esporte, Napoli made an approached the entourage of Rodrigo Caio to try and sign the defender. However, representatives of the player believe that a deal is very difficult because an agreement wasn’t reached on the wages to be paid. For the deal to work, in addition to increasing their offer, the Italian team must race against time, as the period for registration of players in Europe ends on Wednesday. Napoli were willing to offer €13.5 million for 100% of the economic rights, and the proposal was presented to the agent André Cury, who represents the defender in the negotiation. São Paulo aims to strengthen their finances by selling 80% of the economic rights they own. Last week, German side Hamburg had made a proposal for Caio, who turned it down because he preferred a club with greater visibility, and where he would have more chances of being called up to the Brazilian national squad. AC Milan enquired about the situation of the 23-year-old, but did not submit an offer to São Paulo. Rodrigo Caio had a preference for Sevilla, the same club that bought Paulo Henrique Ganso. However, the Spanish club’s offer did not satisfy the board of São Paulo.
