Brazilian striker Gabigol will play for Inter Milan after the World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Colombia; he played his last match for Santos on Sunday against Figueirense, but lost 1-0.
Gabigol said goodbye to Santos on Sunday morning, in a 1-0 defeat to Figueirense at the Vila Belmiro in the 22th round of the Brazilian Championship. A Santos player since childhood, Gabigol said that he would return to the club in the future, after passing through Europe. After the last match for Santos, Gabigol gave a press conference with the presence of friends and family. Excited by the challenge in Italy, the attacker hopes to help Inter Milan with everything he learned at Santos.
Gabigol said: “Santos took me from São Bernardo, where I had little condition, and gave me everything. Now it’s my time to give back. Going now was a decision taken entirely by me. Now it’s a new stage. I’m going to a big club. I liked their conversation, the coach, the players. I’m going to help Inter. I learned a lot here at Santos, not only as a player but also as a person. Here is my home. Spent 10 years here.”
At Inter, Gabigol would have one of the biggest challenges of his career. At 19, he will play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, but he’s not afraid of the pressure that he may face going forward. He added: “I like pressure, challenge. And this is one more. The Italian league is very strong. There are many good teams. I’m really prepared to go to Europe. I’ll go with my family and friends. There are great Brazilians also in Italy.”
The striker was in Milan last week, where he was joyously received by Inter fans. He traveled with his father, Valdemir Silva, and agent, Wagner Ribeiro, to set the details of the transfer and undergo medical tests.
