Grêmio defender Pedro Geromel was called up by Tite for Brazil’s next two games in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, against Ecuador and Colombia.
Geromel takes the place of São Paulo’s Rodrigo Caio, who was removed because of an injury. Geromel will miss Grêmio’s Brasileirão games against Botafogo, on September 4, and Coritiba, on the 9th. Brazil will play against Ecuador on September 1 in Quito, and then take on the Colombians on the 6th, in Manaus. When contacted, the medical department of São Paulo reported that Rodrigo Caio had a stretch in the adductor muscle of his right thigh. Rodrigo Caio was part of the Brazil squad that won Gold in the men’s football tournament in the Olympic Games. At 30, this is Geromel’s first call up to the Brazilian national team. The defender has spent almost his entire career in Europe and have been outstanding since signing for Grêmio at the end of 2013.
