New Inter Milan forward Gabriel Barbosa played his final game for Santos on Sunday, in the club’s shock 1-0 home defeat to Figueirense, after the match, he made an emotional address to the Santos fans, having agreed a move to Italian giants Inter Milan, who he will join after the international break.

Addressing the supporters in the centre circle straight after the game, Gabigol told Santistas, “This is my home. We dreamed a lot, cried a lot, but it’s thanks to you. Thank you. I’m leaving, but pretty soon I will return. This is my place. It is a difficult time for the club and this also weighed on my decision. Now it’s my time. Thank you for everything. I love you and very soon I will return.”

In the post-match press conference, Gabigol told journalists, “I’m not going because of money, because the club pushed me, none of these. I’m going because I want to. It’s very good money, but it’s a huge challenge,” Gabriel said.

“I think I go out the front door. I think it was the most expensive sale of the club if I’m not mistaken. I’m leaving, but I scored goals, I won titles and now I am leaving a great thing for them. It’s not about money, but thank you. They did a lot for me, and now I’m doing something for them.”
