Atlético Mineiro left-back Douglas Santos says that he will stay with the Brazilian club for the foreseeable future, despite reported interest from Barcelona, Valencia and Arsenal. Douglas was part of Brazil’s recent Olympic squad that won the gold medal in Brazil.
Santos has been linked with several clubs during the summer and playing an integral part in his country’s recent triumph will have yielded more attention from European clubs. However, with seven days left of the European transfer window, it’s likely that he will stay with Galo for now.
"Everyone played a part in the achievement [winning the Olympics]. Everyone committed to it fully, gave their life and blood on the field. I"m happy here, my focus is here. The future belongs to God and I leave it in his hands," he said at a press conference at Cidade do Galo.
"Now the focus changes. This task I have performed, won the medal, lived the dream. Now I go in search of other dreams, to win the Brasileirão and another Copa do Brasil," he concluded.
Atlético say that no offers have come in for the 22 year old left-back yet, but it is thought that they would entertain a sale, after an anticipated move to China failed to materialise for star striker Lucas Pratto.
