Despite having chosen to cash in on midfielder Thiago Maia to ease the club’s financial crisis, Santos can also sell young right-back Daniel Guedes in the current transfer window.
According to the information from Lance!, Napoli has a representative in Brazil negotiating directly with Santos president Modesto Roma. Initially, the idea of the Italians were to convince Santos to release Daniel Guedes immediately, offering €3 million and a four-year contract to the player. However, the value was deemed low by Santos, because the club owns just 25% of his economic rights. 50% of rights belong to Daniel Guedes himself, while the other 25% is the subject of discussion in court because it was assigned to investment group Doyen by the previous management. With difficulty in buying the 22-year-old, the Italians have changed their strategy and are now analysing a loan proposal, with the purchase price fixed in the contract. During his recent trip to London, Modesto also heard from directors of Chelsea that they’re looking for a right-back and Daniel Guedes fits the profile of coach Antonio Conte. A proposal can be submitted before the end of the transfer window. Earlier this year, Santos had turned down an offer of €8 million from a group of investors who were keen to put Daniel at FC Porto, but the club’s board had no intention of selling any of their players at that time.
The board of Santos know that they must sell at least one of their starting XI players to ease the accounts. During the talks with Modesto, Chelsea had expressed an interest in Thiago Maia, who’s currently with the Brazilian national team for the Olympics. Santos, who own 72% of Thiago Maia’s economic rights, wants to sell him for a high value, and hope to get a fee between €15 million and €20 million. Chelsea are not the only team interested in the midfielder. Clubs like Atlético Madrid and Napoli are also monitoring the 19-year-old.
