Inter Milan have made the highest official proposal for Gabigol, but the Italians may have to give up on the race to sign the Santos striker.
To overcome the Financial Fair Play barrier imposed by FIFA, the Italian club has been forced to change the terms of signing Portuguese midfielder João Mário from Sporting. Inter had to give up buying him outright and would now acquire the player on a season-long loan for around €10 million, with an obligation to purchase him for €30 million. Inter Milan had made an official offer of €25 million for Gabigol, and it also exceeded Juventus’ €20 million bid. Gabigol’s agent Wagner Ribeiro said: “We will address the future of Gabigol after the Olympics. For now, all focus is on the national team.”
In Saturday, Santos will complete the second month of delay in the payment of image rights of player. To prevent the financial issue within the club, president Modesto Roma has decided that he needs to sell a player in the current transfer window. Besides Gabigol, Santos sees huge demand for midfielder Thiago Maia and wing-back Zeca. Earlier this summer, Santos had made it clear that they have no intention of selling playmaker Lucas Lima, because the club owns just 10% of his economic rights.
