São Paulo defender Rodrigo Caio is edging closer to La Liga side Sevilla; the player is currently with the Brazilian national team for the Olympic Games.
According to the information from Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Rodrigo Caio’s father met São Paulo director Gustavo Vieira de Oliveira and businessman André Cury on the afternoon of Tuesday. During the meeting, São Paulo received an offer of €10.4 million for 90% of the economic rights of Rodrigo Caio. It is the third proposal of Sevilla for Rodrigo Caio in less than two weeks. Jorge Sampaoli’s team had offered €7.4 million, and then €9.4 million, but both were rejected by São Paulo. In addition to the new €10.4 million bid, Sevilla would be willing to pay €2 million in bonuses to the Brazilian club. São Paulo director Gustavo Vieira heard from the father of Rodrigo Caio that the defender wants to move to Spain. The 22-year-old currently earns €33,000 at São Paulo, but his wages will be quintupled if the transfer is confirmed. Rodrigo Caio is excited to play under Jorge Sampaoli, who has already spoke three times on the phone with the player. He would also be willing to not receive his 10% share at the moment, to facilitate a transfer. If he can turn out to be a success at Sevilla, then Caio would have the chance to cash in on his share of the economic rights in a future transfer.
