Brazil Olympic boss Rogerio Micale has admitted his relief, insisting he “feels a lot lighter” following Brazil’s impressive 4-0 destruction of Denmark in Salvador. The pressure was firmly on the Seleção following disappointing 0-0 draws with South Africa and Iraq earlier in the group.

However, their easy victory over Denmark assured their qualification from Group A, setting up a quarter-final tie against Colombia on Saturday night, “I’m lighter!” he laughed, “But it was a great performance from the team, who tried at all times to score a goal.

“We had good amount of possession again. In the previous game 71%, then 70%. The longer we stay with possession, the more we can approach the goal and win the game. The crowd pushed us, embraced us, as they did in Brasilia, but there the ball was not going in.

“We are happy now, but it’s only one step,” he insisted, “We qualify. We stay quiet, the ultimate goal is to come.” Rogerio also revealed that he received a pre-match phonecall from two time Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari in advance of the match.

“I received a call from Scolari. He gave me strength, I admire him a lot. These people are always welcome,” he said.”Tite’s presence is always important, especially for the relationship we have, life experience, football experience.

“Whenever we talk, we talk about football and things that happen. Good and bad moments, he is always welcome. All are welcome to speak, as I said from the beginning, even without an appointment, I am happy to welcome them, “he added.
