São Paulo are in search of a replacement for coach Edgardo Bauza, and a name that has received much praise within the club is Ricardo Gomes, who currently manages Botafogo.
According to Yahoo Esportes, almost everyone present during the last board meeting rated Ricardo Gomes well, and the club would’ve already made an enquiry for the coach, through an agent. Ricardo Gomes has previously worked at São Paulo between June 2009 and August 2010. He returned to Brazil to replace Muricy Ramalho after five years of work in France for Bordeaux and Monaco. It is precisely the coach’s international experience that has won the coach several fans within São Paulo. However, São Paulo will struggle to take Ricardo Gomes away from Botafogo. In May, the coach refused an offer from Cruzeiro and had his contract extended until the end of 2017. He is one of the only four coaches who have been at the same team since the beginning of the year; the others are Dorival Júnior at Santos, Vagner Mancini of Vitória and Roger Machado at Grêmio. Ricardo Gomes came to give up playing football in 2011 after a stroke. The return occurred only in the middle of last year after an invitation from Botafogo. Since then, he has won the 2015 Série B and was a finalist in this year’s state championship.
