Atlético Mineiro and Brazil left-back Douglas Santos has played down suggestions that Brazil will be too cavalier during their Olympic campaign in August. With Luan, Gabigol, Gabriel Jesús and Neymar all expected to form part of the starting XI, it certainly looks a very attacking line-up.
However, the Galo left-back has suggested Brazil will attack and defend as a team, telling a news conference on Thursday, “Let’s attack with 11 and defend with 11. Neymar, Gabriel Jesus, Luan Gabriel, who play upfront, you know you have to score.
The players at the front know who has to defend automatically. For us at the back we will need a lot of help. We back there also have to do our job, which is to push the lines forward, to all be ready to push on.”
Grêmio forward Luan insists the structure of the team is well defined by manager Rogerio Michale, “He asked me and Rodrigo Caio if we had trouble understanding what he wants. Especially because at the time of the game we have to have it naturally, the understanding on the pitch.
“These are important conversations, even to pass feedback to him. But it has been easy for us to understand, with the guidelines and all he can do to help, he does.”
