Ex Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester City left-back Sylvinho has been appointed to a coaching role within the Brazilian national team. The Brazilian was assistant to Roberto Mancini at Inter Milan, but will leave the role to join Tite’s Seleção staff.
Sylvinho was originally offered the chance to replace Tite as Corinthians manager last month, but he turned the offer down, insisting that he wanted to finish his coaching education in Europe before becoming a manager.
However, he will now join Tite’s Brazil coaching staff. Another ex-Arsenal man, Edu Gaspar, was appointed to a Technical Director role by the new Brazil boss, having worked with Tite at Corinthians.
Sylvinho began his playing career at Corinthians, before joining Arsenal in 1999. From there he moved to Celta Vigo and was snapped up by Barcelona as soon as he obtained Spanish citizenship. He finished his playing career at Manchester City under Roberto Mancini, who hired him as an assistant manager at Inter Milan. Sylvinho was capped 6 times by Brazil, he was unfortunate to have played during Roberto Carlos’ prime.
