Belo Horizonte club Cruzeiro have signed ex-Arsenal midfielder Denilson on loan until the end of the season from UAE Club Al-Wahda. The 28 year old came through the youth system at Sao Paulo and captained Brazil’s U-20 side before moving to Arsenal in 2006.

He became a first team player at Arsenal until a back injury curtailed his progress in 2009, he rejoined Sao Paulo on loan in 2011, making the deal permanent in 2013. Last year, he moved to Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates.

Earlier this year, Denilson picked up a knee injury and returned to his home town of Sao Paulo for treatment and it’s suspected that this is where contact was initiated. He joins on loan until December with a view to a permanent deal.

Cruzeiro have endured a miserable start to the season and currently occupy one of the relegation spots in Serie A. Denilson has won the Campeonato Paulista with Sao Paulo and the Arabian Gulf Cup with Al-Wahda.
