Linked to Palmeiras until 2019, 19-year-old attacker Gabriel Jesus has been attracting the interest of some of the major clubs in European football.
However, Palmeiras president Paulo Nobre has confirmed that Gabriel Jesus will stay at the club at least until the end of this year. Barcelona had sent a representative to Brazil to accompany Gabriel Jesus in action last month, and Palmeiras’ director of football is currently in Spain. But Paulo Nobre ensures that the player feels committed to stay in Brazil to fight for the Brazilian Championship.
Paulo Nobre said: “Gabriel Jesus is really a player out of the ordinary. Very new and is already featured nationally, and now international as well. It’s quite natural that in such circumstances there is interest from big clubs in acquiring him. I am delighted to see Gabriel not wanting to leave. When the player does not want to leave, the thing does not happen. He made it clear: ‘I don’t want to leave, I want to play this Brasileirão, I want to mature more and it makes me very proud to be a Palmeirense’.”
Gabriel Jesus, who came through the youth system of Palmeiras, had scored seven goals in 37 games in 2015, which was his first season as a professional. This year, the attacker has already found the net 19 times in 32 matches. With 10 goals, he is the current top-scorer of the Brazilian Championship.
