Argentine striker Calleri has said goodbye to São Paulo after the club"s elimination from the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday night.
São Paulo lost 2-1 to Atlético Nacional in the second-leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-final on Wednesday, and were eliminated from the continental competition. Apparently, the game was also the last of Jonathan Calleri in a São Paulo shirt. The 22-year-old, who has a contract until July 30, will bid farewell to the Brazilian side for completing the necessary documentation to play for Argentina in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Calleri is in the sights of European teams, and was rumoured to have a verbal agreement with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
The striker, who scored his team"s only goal on Wednesday, said: “It"s very difficult because I have to do many procedures in Argentina and then return to play. Yesterday I informed Patón [coach], the president and my colleagues it was my farewell, but I didn"t want to say goodbye like that. I thought I would have a chance to play the final [of Libertadores]. I"m thankful, I was very well during these six months, and it was better than what I had expected."
