On Sunday, Atlético Mineiro will face Flamengo in the 14th round of the Brazilian Championship, and it will also be the 99th match in a Galo shirt for left-back Douglas Santos.
Douglas Santos will miss at least five rounds of the Brasileirão, as he’s called up to the Brazilian team for the Olympic Games. The presentation is scheduled for July 18, when Atlético takes on Coritiba. In addition to this, Douglas Santos should be out for the games against Palmeiras, Santa Cruz, São Paulo and Chapecoense. Depending on Brazil’s performances in the competition, Douglas Santos can also miss the clashes against Santos and Atlético Paranaense. The return to Atlético, therefore, would be for the fixture with Grêmio, in the second half of August. However, Sunday’s game against Flamengo may well be his last for Galo as the 22-year-old is attracting interest from a number of European clubs. Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona and Valencia were some of the clubs to show an interest in Douglas Santos, and Atlético have already signed a possible replacement in Fábio Santos, who arrived from Mexican side Cruz Azul.
