On Friday, judge De la Mata decided to close the lawsuit filed by investment group DIS against Brazilian star Neymar, in relation to the player’s transfer from Santos to Barcelona in 2013.
The investment group, which owned 40% of the economic rights of Neymar during his time at Santos, had filed a lawsuit in court claiming that they didn’t receive the right share of money from the player’s transfer. Barça, meanwhile, had entered into an agreement with the Spanish tax authorities, and following the judge’s decision, the judicial issues involving the 24-year-old must end. The group belonging to businessman Delcir Sonda received just over €6 million from the sale of Neymar in 2013. It was equivalent to 40% of the €17 million fee paid by the Catalans to Santos. However, it was later revealed that the total cost of the transaction was over €83 million. In the process with the Spanish tax authorities, Barcelona pleaded guilty and agreed to pay a €5.5 million fine over the contested transfer in a deal with prosecutors that allowed the club to avoid trial on tax evasion charges.
