It is expected that Alexandre Pato will return to Corinthians on Friday to try and resolve his uncertain future. His loan spell with Chelsea officially expires on June 30th and with the Brasileirão season in full swing, Pato is expected to return to São Paulo to discuss his future with Timão.
Chelsea took Pato on loan in January with an option to buy, but having only appeared for the London club three times, they will not exercise their right to make the move permanent. His contract with Corinthians expires in January and he strongly favours a move to Europe.
However, his representatives have not been able to create sufficient interest and an underwhelming loan spell at Chelsea will not have strengthened their case. Corinthians have a new manager, with Tite having left the post to take over the Brazilian national side. If new boss Cristavão Borges decides that he likes Pato, there is a possibility of reintegration.
However, Pato’s relationship with the club is not good. The supporters turned on him shortly before he left on loan for São Paulo and the player refused to extend his deal at Timão by 12 months to help them secure a transfer fee for his sale. His current salary is sizeable and Corinthians will be keen to have it removed from their books.
