A star at Palmeiras and a certain name in the squad for the Olympic Games, Gabriel Jesus met former striker Ronaldo Fenômeno for a chat on the pressure ahead of Brazil’s pursuit of the Gold medal.
The young Palmeiras forward heard advices on how to act on the pitch and showed enough confidence in winning the Gold medal in the Olympics. Gabriel Jesus knew Ronaldo, but the 19-year-old was still a little nervous, as he delayed his arrival because of a workout at Palmeiras.
He said before meeting Ronaldo: “I’m very anxious. Not just me, but my family too, because he’s a legend of football and he’s my inspiration… So I’m quite nervous.”
About the country’s quest for an unprecedented Gold in Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel said: “God willing, I will be in the squad. And win. I dream of winning this medal, which will be marked in my history and the whole of Brazil will recognize me more for this medal. And now I think about the Olympic Gold. I’ve always thought this.”
Ronaldo even sees similarities between Gabriel Jesus and his past. Ronaldo said: “I look at Gabriel and I see my past. I see the coincidences, he is so young and already so successful, and with so much responsibility. He has a road to go. A fantastic way to go. But he already enchants us with what he’s done so far.”
Ronaldo added: “The pressure exists. It’s not just for the players who will be there, but for all the generations that have passed. Play, be happy, have fun with the ball. Then the coaches will ask a lot of other things. But when you have the ball, you’ll have fun, will play, always objectively, looking for the goal. That’s what the Brazilian fans like.”
