Manchester City have joined the bidding for Palmeiras wonderkid Gabriel Jesús, according to a report in the English language version of Spain’s AS Newspaper. The young Brazilian has caught the attention of scouts the world over with his performances for the São Paulo club and is considered one of South America’s biggest rising talents.

The forward has a clause in his contract for offers from Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, hut it is understood that Manchester City have lodged a €21.5m bid with Palmeiras, dwarfing Barcelona’s opening bid.

Gabriel Jesús will form part of Brazil’s U-23 squad at the Olympic games in Rio in August, after which it is expected that he will be inducted into the senior squad. Only a visa issue prevented him from being called as cover for the injured Douglas Costa at the Copa América.

Despite City’s apparent interest, it is understood that Gabriel would prefer a move to Spain and it would certainly be easier for him to obtain a work permit there, compared to England.
