Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa will be available to represent Brazil at the Olympic games in Rio this summer, it has been revealed. The winger missed out on Brazil’s disastrous Copa América campaign through injury and expressed his desire to participate in the Rio games to make amends.

Brazil are allowed to call up three players over the age of 23, one of whom will be Neymar who was spared the Copa América so that he could take part in this tournament. Shortly before his sacking, along with outgoing Seleção boss Dunga, Selection coordinator Gilmar Rinaldi confirmed that Bayern Munich were willing to release 25 year old Costa. Brazil U-20 boss Roger Michale is likely to take charge of the Olympic squad following the sacking of Dunga.

Speaking on Monday, Costa told SporTV, “Neymar is there, that leaves two (more players over the age of 23 permitted to be in the squad). We are ready. I did not play in Copa América, so it would be nice,” he insisted.

Costa went onto say that he has adjusted to life at Bayern Munich having joined from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer, “At first, it’s weird. It’s not every day that Pep calls you.

“At first, you arrive at Bayern Munich, full of star players, look at the side and think, ‘whoa, I am able to be here?’ I think it was a good experience. Then you forget. You become a part of big matches, big things, you become part of the history of the club. Then you start to feel that you belong.”
