The president of Atlético Mineiro, Daniel Nepomuceno, announced on Wednesday night that the club have signed Brazilian striker Fred, from Fluminense.
Through his official Twitter account, Nepomuceno said that the player will be at the Independência stadium on Sunday. Atlético Mineiro and Fred came to negoti5a deal between February and April, when the striker fell out with Fluminense coach Levir Culpi. After discussions with Fluminense president Peter Siemsen, the two reached a compromise and Fred agreed to stay at the club. However, talks resumed last week, and despite having been considered as an idol within Fluminense, Fred recognized that the best solution was to leave. The uproar following his falling out with Levir weighed in the player’s decision to seek a new club. Negotiations were conducted by the executive director of Fluminense, Jorge Macedo. Francis Mello, personal adviser and manager of the player, also participated in the talks and was at the club’s training center on Tuesday and Wednesday to address the issue.
Fred, who has been playing for Fluminense since 2009, was part of the Brazilian national team that lifted the 2013 Confederations Cup.
