A red card is the reason why Corinthians sits top in the Brazilian Championship table.
After the games on Sunday, the defending champions are tied for points, wins, draws, defeats, goals scored and conceded with Grêmio, and are ahead because the team haven’t collected any red cards this season. So far, Corinthians have collected 11 yellow cards and zero red cards, compared to 13 yellows and a red card by Grêmio. Internacional also have 13 points but they’re behind on goal difference. Palmeiras are fourth with 12 points. The difference in the table is the red card given to attacker Lincoln, when Grêmio defeated Ponte Preta 1-0 with a goal from Luan.
Meanwhile, Internacional lost the opportunity to go on top of the Brasileirão. In Barradão, Vitória came out as 1-0 winners, after a goal from Marinho, just three minutes into the match. The result also ended Internacional’s unbeaten streak.
