Corinthians no longer have much hope of recovering the club-record €15 million fee invested to bring Alexandre Pato from Milan, or even a part of this value.
The player, who was loaned out to Premier League side Chelsea in January, has a bond with the Brasileirão champions until the end of this year. Pato has turned down big-money proposals from Asia, and Corinthians board believes that the 26-year-old is waiting for his contract to end and then sign for another club. Before his move to Chelsea, Pato had rejected an astronomical offer from a Chinese club, and the information was confirmed by his agent Gilmar Veloz. According to former Corinthians president Andrés Sánchez, Pato did not accept a similar proposal from the United Arab Emirates – something denied by Gilmar.
Andrés Sánchez said: “He wants to be sold? What do you think? Ha proposals to sell him, a lot. Had them earlier this year and now, too. He wants? It"s not me or Corinthians that would sell someone. A player only leaves if they want. Every player leaves because they wanted to. I may want to [sell], but depends on the player."
When asked about a possible exchange involving Pato with another Brazilian club, Andrés added: “Do you think he wants? He wants money. He want to get paid R$ 6 million by the end of the year and be free. He would see Barcelona come in, and still he will not accept. But people do not understand this and criticize us."
