Brazilian defender Marquinhos has decided to leave Paris Saint-Germain, and has reportedly agreed personal terms with Barcelona.
According to the Spanish newspaper SPORT, Marquinhos has agreed wages and a five-year contract with Barcelona. Director of football Raül Sanllehí, international sporting director Ariedo Braida and the club’s representative in Brazil, André Cury, met Giuliano Bertolucci, the agent of Marquinhos, last weekend to set the details of a summer transfer. During this meeting, it would’ve been agreed that the defender would not listen to offers of other clubs, especially from English football, with Manchester United and Chelsea showing interest. The report also points out that, if all goes as planned, Marquinhos will no longer play for PSG. The player is currently with the Brazilian national team to compete in the Copa América Centenário.
The last step that Barcelona and Marquinhos need to take is to convince the president of PSG, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. The Brazilian is one of the players in the sqaud that the billionaire appreciates the most, and he certainly wouldn’t want to lose him. To persuade the president, Barcelona would be ready to offer €40 million. Initially, Barcelona and Marquinhos’ representatives will talk with the Parisian board, but the defender may have to speak directly with Al-Khelaïfi to ask for his release, if necessary.
