Brazilian football federation announced on Tuesday that goalkeeper Éderson and midfielder Rafinha were removed from the squad for this month’s Copa América Centenário.
Grêmio’s Marcelo Gröhe and PSG winger Lucas Moura were named as imminent replacements for the duo. Éderson was injured in training last Friday and did not train with the group since then. The Benfica goalkeeper, who has attracted interest from clubs like Manchester City and Inter Milan, aims to recover before July 18, which is the date for the presentation of players for the Olympic Games. Rafinha, in turn, hasn’t been on the field for training with the national team. Since his first day in the United States, he underwent physiotherapy, but failed to recover in time. He’s another player who should be in the squad for the Olympics. Before the two, Dunga had to cut Douglas Costa and Ricardo Oliveira from his squad, and they were replaced by Kaká and Jonas, respectively. Kaká and Fabinho did not train on the field on Tuesday, and they’re the two new concerns for the Brazilian team.
