To renew with Barcelona beyond 2018, Neymar would have to accept a lower salary than what’s been offered by other European clubs like Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
According to Brazilian journalist Rodrigo Mattos, the proposal of Barcelona to extend Neymar’s contract has already been made, and it’s now up to the player to decide if he prefer to stay at the club. Under the current agreement, Neymar receives €5 million per year, plus bonuses of around €2.7 million. The player’s staff has received enquiries from other major European clubs like Manchester United, PSG and Real Madrid, who were committed to pay his €190 million release clause to Barcelona. The Catalans have offered to increase the wages of Neymar, but haven’t matched the proposals made by others. According to sources involved in the negotiations, the other proposals are considerably higher than Barcelona’s renewal offer. Despite all this, the 24-year-old is expected to sign a new deal with Barça, and his release clause should reach €250 million, which is same as Lionel Messi.
