Real Madrid’s victory against Atlético Madrid in Milan has put Brazilian right-back Danilo in a list of players who have been champions of both the Copa Libertadores and the UEFA Champions League.
Danilo, who won the South American competition in 2011 with Santos, is the 10th player in history to achieve the feat. Among the other nine names on the list, five are Brazilians: Dida, Roque Junior, Cafú, Ronaldinho and Neymar. When Santos won the Libertadores final in 2011 against Peñarol, it was Danilo who scored the decisive goal in the 2-1 second leg victory. The other four players on the list are Argentinians: Sorín, Solari, Carlos Tévez and Samuel. Danilo said after the final: “It’s important, I thank God. I have a little star, it’s the result of hard work and dedication.”
Danilo was then asked by the Portuguese press if he had made the right choice in changing the club, as he was one of the most important players of FC Porto, but hasn’t been able to establish himself in Spain. He said: “I think today’s game and the title answer your question. Undoubtedly, yes.”
