Atlético Mineiro are interested in signing Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato, who played for Premier League side Chelsea last season, on loan from Corinthians.
Coach Marcelo Oliveira sees the need to boost his team’s offensive sector by bringing in a major name, and Alexandre Pato appears as a possibility. The situation of the player, who belongs to Corinthians, is being monitored by the football department of Atlético Mineiro since December last year. Pato has admirers within the club’s board, especially president Daniel Nepomuceno who has confessed to be a fan of the former Milan player. UOL Esporte states that Atlético director Eduardo Maluf came to talk with leaders of Corinthians during the Florida Cup, about the contractual situation of the player. Pato’s bond with Corinthians runs out at the end of this year, and he’s free to sign a pre-contract with any team from July.
In the event of an agreement with Pato, Atlético would talk to Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade, seeking the player’s release. The aim is to reach an agreement for the player to move to Belo Horizonte, ahead of schedule. According to Globo Esporte, Corinthians have no intention of keeping the 26-year-old in their squad, and can accept to release him to reduce the expenses that they would have to cover until December.
