Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis has confessed that he was unable to sleep for several days after Atleti’s defeat in the 2014 Champions League Final. The Brazilian will contest the final in Milan again, with Real Madrid once again the opponents in a repeat of the final from two years ago.

Filipe will be hoping to avoid a repeat result in Milan on Saturday. Atletico led their city rivals until a 90th minute Sergio Ramos header saw the game move into extra time, where Real took control and eventually won 4-1.

“I spent several days thinking that at the end of 2014, I was unable to sleep. I dreamed several times that the game was cancelled, that it was replayed and that we had another chance. I dreamt that several times,” he laughed.

“Because really you see the trophy so close, shining in front of you, and suddenly the dream is taken. But that’s the beauty of football. You think you have a hand on the cup and then it is far away. A minute is a long time!” he concluded.

Filipe Luis is part of Brazil’s Copa América squad and he spoke a little of the criticism the national side endures from their domestic media, “At our clubs we know the smallest details of our teammates, where they will be on the pitch, when I have to defend and when he has to attack.

“In the National Team we have different teammates and we do not have much time to train. Training lasts two or three days and that does not give much time. Often we are criticized, sometimes rightly, sometimes not.

“But if I was not in the squad, I would not be criticized. So I accept this criticism with joy. The only thing I want is to try to play the best I can to try to turn the criticism into praise in the future.”
