Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho was relieved that his side took the point they needed at Swansea to all but confirm Champions League qualification for next season. Manchester United still have to play their final match at home to AFC Bournemouth, but need to win by 18 goals to unseat City in 4th place.

“We are happy to take the point and be in the Champions League,” the Brazilian told City’s official website, “We wanted to stay in it for next season, I am happy because a team with the players we have should be ashamed if we are not in the competition.

“We played very well in the tournament this year and reached the semi-final and we want to be in it again and prepare very well for next season. We didn’t play well in the Premier League, we lost too many games at home, especially to important teams around us.

“We will take more experience for next season and we hope for next season to be different, to get to the final this time and fight for the Premier League title as well. Personally, I am happy with how I have performed.

“When I am on the pitch I try to give 100% and the fans deserve that, to play with 100% intensity and never give up. Unfortunately, we couldn’t win the Premier League but we will try again next year.”
