Team coordinator of the Brazilian national team, Gilmar Rinaldi, admitted that the arguments made by Barcelona coach Luis Enrique to select Neymar for just one competition this summer, convinced him and Dunga.
Gilmar Rinaldi said that the desire of Neymar was to take part in the Copa América Centenário next month, but the player had to be convinced otherwise. After his vacation, Neymar will participate in the Olympic Games this August to lead the nation’s quest for an unprecedented Gold medal. Gilmar was quoted in UOL Esporte: “Luis Enrique argued that the player had many matches and trips this year and needed a full period of holiday, and then train well with the national team and for the entire season with his club. We understood him. As a result, not because we didn’t want Neymar around, but as the arguments were very good, we spoke with a relationship of friendship and respect. The best for all at the moment is this.”
He added: “Neymar wanted to play, but when we made things clear he understood that we had to make a decision together. He is a very intelligent person. He always wants to play, but it was good for him, us and Barcelona. We have to respect that.”
