São Paulo are aiming to strengthen their squad, and coach Edgardo Bauza has publicly asked for new players.
One of the names in the club’s shortlist is 22-year-old Uruguayan striker Nicolás López from Nacional who have made it to the quarterfinals of this year’s Copa Libertadores. Nicolás López scored the first goal for Nacional in the 2-2 draw last week at Itaquera, which eliminated Brasileirão champions Corinthians from the Libertadores. But despite monitoring him, São Paulo believes that the negotiation would be difficult and particularly expensive. Other clubs in the continent, including Internacional, are interested in signing López, and the Morumbi side does not intend to enter into a financial battle for the former AS Roma man. The main target for the attack is still Argentine striker Marcelo Larrondo of Rosario Central, who are also in the quarterfinals of the Libertadores. The name was suggested to the board by Edgardo Bauza. Larrondo undergoes treatment on his left knee and hasn’t played for a month and a half. The technical committee of São Paulo are following the recovery of the Argentine but Rosario do not consider release him before the end of their participation in the Libertadores.
