During an interview with Spanish press on Friday, Roberto Moreno, executive director of investment group DIS, criticized Barcelona forward Neymar, but the company run by the player"s parents has responded strongly.
In a statement sent to the press, N&N Consultoria said that DIS profited from the striker"s transfer from Santos to Barcelona and accuses the investment group of “trying to harm the image of one of the main idols of Brazilian and world football." DIS owned 40% of the economic rights of Neymar and filed a lawsuit in court claiming they didn"t receive the right share of money from the player"s transfer. Moreno said: “Neymar cannot be an example for our children, he is not an icon when he is being investigated for fraud, tax evasion and corruption. We feel betrayed, cheated and deceived. We took care of him, we invested a lot of money in him despite the risk, and there comes a time when we feel cheated."
N&N responded: “DIS acquired 40% of the economic rights of Neymar on March 6, 2009 for an amount of R$ 5 million. From the transfer of the player to FC Barcelona on 07/10/2013, DIS received R$ 19,774,251.22, which is the exact amount that represented their participation in the contract."
They added: “DIS only had an initial investment in the player"s career. Other than that, the company is not responsible for the success of Neymar. Who paid him wages during the period [2009/2013]? Santos FC. Who provided sports equipment to the player during the period? Nike. Who worked and enhanced the image of the player during the period? Santos FC, the Brazilian national team, Neymar Sports and Marketing, his partners and sponsors. Who worked daily to fulfill his role as a professional player, training, running, scoring goals and doing spectacular plays? Neymar."
