€930,000 signing-bonus and €175,000 monthly - Package of Leicester rejected by ex-Internacional player Aránguiz
Charles Aránguiz signed a contract until June 2020 with German side Bayer Leverkusen last year.
On April 21, Chilean midfielder Charles Aránguiz gave his first press conference at Bayer Leverkusen after recovering from an injury that kept him sidelined for more than six months. The player was, of course, asked by half a dozen reporters about his rejection for the offer from Premier League side Leicester City in August 2015. From his home in Cologne, just over 30 km from Leverkusen, Aránguiz saw the same Leicester side, that was turned down by him because he "wanted to play for titles", being crowned Premier League on Monday night. At Internacional, the wages of Aránguiz was around €60,000 per-month. According to ESPN Brasil, the package that was offered to the Chilean by Leicester included: €930,000 as bonus upon signing the contract, €175,000 per-month, an even housing assistance among other benefits. Leicester were so keen on the player that they even send a representative to Porto Alegre to officially present their €15 million proposal to Internacional. The Brazilian club's president Vitório Piffero tried to convince Aránguiz to accept the offer from Leicester, but was unsuccessful in his attempts, and was forced to sell him to Leverkusen for a lower fee, around €12m. A week after arriving in Germany, it was confirmed by his club that Aránguiz has torn the achilles tendon in his left foot. To date, the 27-year-old has played just four matches in German football.
