Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has labelled tonight’s Champions League semi-final 2nd leg against Real Madrid as “the biggest game of my life.” The Brazilian, who turns 31 today, travels to the Bernabeu with his teammates following a 0-0 draw in the first leg last week.

The ex Shakhtar man has won the league title and two league cups with City, but is under no illusion that tonight represents the threshold of his career, “I’m sure this is a title that would leave its mark in the life of every player and every City fan.

“This is my first Champions League semi-final and the expectations are high. We will go in with everything we have to win this title. It’s a very important moment in the career of any player. Of course the pressure is high because all teams want to reach the final.

“But you hope you can overcome the difficulties. We’ve had disappointments, we’ve had some happiness, so you learn from those and take something from everything.” The Brazilian was part of a Shakhtar team that won the UEFA Cup in 2008 and he remembers well the legacy the victory left with Donetsk fans and players alike.

“It left its mark on everyone’s career, and it went down in the history of the club too. I feel great pride over what we have done here at City. Our hope is to overcome all of that and secure qualification.”
