Chelsea midfielder Willian has revealed his frustration at Chelsea’s underperformance this season. Chelsea won the league title at a canter in 2014-15, but endured a catastrophic campaign by their standards, sinking into mid-table obscurity.

Willian, who is currently negotiating a new contract with the club, has revealed that this has been a season of immense frustration for the players, telling the Sun newspaper, “It’s difficult to go through a season like this, where you can’t win the title, where we’re out of all the competitions.

“When the team is in difficulty – which has been the case this season – it’s hard to maintain a good level of performance.  But I try to give my best all the time. I had a good start to the season, my statistics were pretty good.

“I think that’s down to my will to win, whether my team-mates are in form or not. I always try and give everything. I still have dreams, still have objectives. I dream of winning trophies, I want to keep getting better and to become one of the best players in the world.”

Willian has been one of Chelsea’s best performers this season and is subject to interest from China. He maintains that he is still very ambitious, “I dream of winning the Champions League. It’s a trophy I absolutely want to win, like the Club World Cup. I think the most beautiful thing would be to win the World Cup. I think the World Cup is the most important trophy in a player’s career.”
