The Uruguayan youngster is being paid around €99,000 by Cruzeiro each month.
Rumoured to join Palmeiras as part of the deal that took Lucas and Robinho to Cruzeiro, attacking midfielder Giorgian De Arrascaeta may go to São Paulo. According to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Palmeiras board were frightened by the player’s wages – around €86,000 a month tax free. The amount exceeds €100,000 considering all expenses. São Paulo already know that they need a midfielder with the ability to drive forward with the ball and sees De Arrascaeta as a great option. The player has had the endorsement of coach Edgardo Bauza and may be involved in an exchange. The possibility of buying the player is virtually ruled out due to the high amount invested: €4 million for 50% rights. Half was paid in cash and the rest eventually divided into 29 instalments. 14 installments of €69,000 each are remaining. After spending very little in transfers during January, São Paulo president Leco has admitted he wants to sign at least three players for the Brasileirão in order to improve the quality of the team, who were eliminated from Paulistão in the quarterfinals after a 4-1 defeat to Audax.
