Jorginho has rejected the proposal from Cruzeiro and will continue at Vasco da Gama with assistant coach Zinho.
In recent days, the coach entered the sights of Cruzeiro, as they’re seeking a new coach following the dismissal of Deivid. According to Globo Esporte, after hearing the offer, the coach considered moving to Cruzeiro, but eventually ruled out an exit from Vasco. In social networks, Vasco president Eurico Miranda also announced that Jorginho and Zinho are staying. Behind the scenes, Cruzeiro came to open negotiations with Jorginho without going through Eurico Miranda. Internally, there was a fear that the wages offered would influence the coach’s departure. SporTV journalist Lédio Carmona revealed that the offer from Cruzeiro would almost triple the wages of the former Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich player. Before the game between Vasco and Botafogo for the first leg of the final of the Campeonato Carioca on Sunday, Jorginho said: “I dream, I wish and I’ll have a long career here at Vasco da Gama.”
With Jorginho, Vasco are unbeaten in 24 games. The last defeat of the club was on November 1 last year in the derby against Fluminense.
