Palmeiras reached an agreement on Sunday for the transfer of 21-year-old Colombian defender Yerry Mina from Independiente Santa Fe.
The club bought the economic rights of the defender, who will sign five-year contract. Mina will only be presented by Palmeiras after the Colombian Championship, which ends in late May. The defender will conduct medical tests before signing the new bond. Palmeiras were looking for a defender in the market and had South America as a priority. The initial request by coach Cuca was Fluminense’s experienced central defender Gum, but talks did not progress because Tricolor asked players in return. Yerry Mina was revealed by Deportivo Pasto, also from Colombia, and moved to Santa Fe in 2014. Santa Fe were in the the same group as Corinthians in this season’s Copa Libertadores, and he scored three goals in the competition. Mina is expected to be included in Colombia’s squad for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this August.
